Polygamy Expose in LA Times

The first part of this story will be old news to anyone who's lived in Utah for a while, but there are some interesting insights further on in the article regarding the culpability of local law enforcement in ignoring accusations of rape and child molestation coming from the FLDS community. Also some fairly strong accusations in the article against the Mormon Church and the Attorneys General for Utah and Arizona.

I got a flood of student papers on this topic last semester. A couple of my students (one of them, Erica, an African-American woman) made a field research trip to Hildale to talk to some of the residents and take pictures. No one would talk to Erica, and few would even look at her directly. The community children wanted to touch her skin.
